Amol Utrankar – Council Chairperson

Mr. Utrankar is a member of the Student Technology Committee at Vanderbilt, whose goal is to implement and improve technologies to support UME. He founded the Medical Innovation Lab, a student-led interdisciplinary collaboration to identify and solve “pain points” in health care delivery. Mr. Utrankar has served as a content developer for an EdX massive open online course, “Medicine in the Digital Age.” He was also the recipient of an AAMC grant to improve health outcomes and reduce the financial impact of high-utilizer patients.

Monisha Bhatia

A native of Nashville, Ms. Bhatia is a member of her class’s Curriculum Committee. She holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, a JD from Boston University School of Law, and an MPH from Boston University School of Public Health. She also studied Indian classical dance in Chennai as a Fulbright Scholar. Ms. Bhatia’s main health education interests include improving the quality of didactics in medical education and improving the use of case-based learning.

Nicholas Borcherding

University of Iowa Carver
College of Medicine
Class of 2021

After retiring from the Marine Corps Infantry as a Sergeant, Mr. Borcherding graduated summa cum laude with a degree in nutritional science from Iowa State University. He fell hard for a girl and for research, both of which took Mr. Borcherding to the University of Iowa. He has been involved in education as a teaching assistant and medical curriculum aide, and has served on the medical education and student education councils for the Carver College of Medicine.

Ryan Dickey

Originally from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Mr. Dickey received his undergraduate degree in music performance at the University of North Carolina. He returned to Texas for medical school and is currently applying for residency in plastic surgery. While at Baylor, Mr. Dickey implemented spaced-repetition learning modalities for the preclinical curriculum and created a surgical mentorship program.

David Eisenberg

Mr. Eisenberg studied neuroscience and worked as an EMT during his undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh before beginning medical school in Scranton, PA. He has an interest in software development and user interface, and co-created an app for pre-med students (premdtracker.weebly.com). Mr. Eisenberg is looking toward a career that includes continuing technology and marketing, adult psychiatry, psychotherapy, and practice management.

Jordana Faruqi

Ms. Faruqi is currently pursuing an MD/MPH and is interested in being a part of medical education. She received her bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Tulane University, which has inspired her to go into internal medicine, with a focus on endocrinology. Ms. Faruqi wants to help make medical education more
fun and interactive by combining several modalities of learning to create animated audiovisual study tools.

Stephen “Zach” Frabitore

Mr. Frabitore studied athletic training/sports medicine as an undergraduate student at The Florida State University, graduating cum laude and a Glenn Society Member. He worked in sports medicine for three years at the collegiate level before moving east to pursue medicine. At Brody, he is committed to expanding interdisciplinary medical simulation training and studying outcomes of handheld technology integration in medical education. Mr. Frabitore serves on his school’s Curriculum Evaluation and Improvement
Committees for both Anatomy and Pathology courses

David Glidden

Warren Alpert School of
Medicine at Brown University
Class of 2022

A native of Boston, Mr. Glidden pursued a dual-degree in computer science and biology at Northeastern University. Now a third-year MD/PhD student at Brown University, he is interested in the intersection of molecular biology and digital health. Mr. Glidden knew he wanted to be a doctor after spending a summer in northern Ghana studying malaria during pregnancy.

Allison Pagan

Ms. Pagan is originally from Nebraska, but spent much of the last decade teaching music and English at international schools in East Africa. It was in Ethiopia, while working on public health projects, where she began to pursue a career in medicine. After earning degrees in education at George Mason University and SUNY-Buffalo, she went on to complete medical school at the American University of the Caribbean. The opportunity to apply educational
strategies to the medical sciences is an exciting challenge for Ms. Pagan.

Guo Yu, PharmD, MBA

Prior to medical school, Mr. Yu obtained his PharmD and worked as a pharmacist. He also received his MBA at Texas Tech. His interests include innovative med-ed projects, emergency department administration, and socially responsible start-ups. Before joining ScholarRx, Mr. Yu worked with the CEOs/founders at Firecracker and Picmonic for his med-ed project. He plans to pursue a residency in emergency medicine.

Andrew Zureick

University of Michigan

Class of 2018

Originally from Metro Detroit, Mr. Zureick is spending 2016-2017 conducting research in radiation oncology. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 2013, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude with high honors in chemistry. His interests include medical education, health policy, and pediatric neurooncology. Mr. Zureick is a student editor for the 2017 edition of First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, a member of the AMA-MSS Standing Committee on Medical Education, and a coauthor of  What Every Science Student Should Know, a guidebook for undergraduate STEM majors published in 2016 by the University of Chicago Press.
