Courtney Cleveland

Courtney graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2015 with a degree in biology. She is from Grafton, WI and plans to go into family medicine. 

Rebecca Crowther

Rebecca hails from New Jersey, where she received a degree in biological sciences from Rowan University. Now in the graduate portion of her MD/PhD training, her current research focuses on the role of immune cell metabolism in response to infection. 

Anton Manyak

Anton graduated with a microbiology degree from the University of Washington, finished medical school at University of Vermont College of Medicine and now is in the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Virginia Mason in Seattle. He is interested in pursuing a pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship.  

Henry Bair

Henry is a medical student at Stanford University School of Medicine. He previously attended Rice University and graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Bachelor of Arts in Medieval Studies. He is interested in cross-cultural communication in medicine as well as the intersections between medical care and literature. In addition, he is passionate about medical education, especially in end-of-life care and in improving the patient-physician relationship. 

Nicole Henry Creppel

Nicole is a third-year medical student at Meharry Medical College. During her time at Meharry she has been involved first as her class chaplain, and more recently, as the Academic Vice President. She also serves as the Vice Present of the ENT-interest group at Meharry. Nicole hopes to specialize in otolaryngology and to do mission work in the future. In her free time, she enjoys eating out at restaurants, shopping, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. 

Emily Gall

Emily graduated from Wake Forest School of Medicine. She is now an otolaryngology intern at Tufts Medical Center.  

Hnin Ingyin

Hnin is from central coast California. She earned her undergraduate degree from San Jose State University in 2014. She is currently completing her third–year rotations in New York City. 

Nikolai Klebanov

Nikolai Klebanov graduated from Tufts University summa cum laude in chemical engineering, and is currently finishing his MD at Tufts University in 2019. During medical school, he was involved in computational bioinformatics research with a focus on skin cancer genetics. Nikolai is looking forward to his upcoming transitional year internship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center before starting his residency at the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program in 2020. 

Jonathan Lieberman

Jonathan Lieberman is a recent graduate of St. George’s University School of Medicine. He will be doing a medicine intern year at SUNY Upstate Medical University and then his Anesthesiology residency at Boston University. 

Elizabeth Morrison

Elizabeth is from Chicagoland, graduating from Purdue University with a B.S. in Chemistry in 2011. She worked in biopharmaceutical manufacturing prior to attending Ross University School of Medicine. She is hoping to match into Emergency Medicine. She enjoys hiking, camping, SCUBA, reading, and cooking.

Ria Mulherka

Ria is a fourth-year student whose academic interests include immunology and oncology. Ria has always been passionate about teaching and writing and hopes to always remain involved in medical education.

Garrett Ni, MD

Garrett is currently an otolaryngology resident at Temple University Hospital. He was originally from Taiwan and moved to the United States when he was 17.  He attended Albany Medical College. During his free time, he loves to play classical music on his piano, particularly music by Chopin and Rachmaninoff.  He also enjoys going on cruises around the world with his wife, Jessica. They are looking forward to excitement and adventure on an upcoming week–long cruise to Bermuda. 

Jeffrey Landon Roberson

Jeffrey is a general surgery resident (PGY1) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania interested in medical education and academic surgery. 

Erica Spano

Erica is currently a fourth year medical student and aspires to pursue a career in general surgery.

Nara Tashjian, MD, MBA

Nara loves to bake and cook. Currently, she’s working on perfecting Dutch oven peach cobbler. As a Midwesterner, she also makes all her own butter. To balance the baking, Nara loves to get outside. She enjoys participating in triathlons and Nordic skiing. 

Nhi Vu

Nhi Vu is a recent graduate of SGUSOM Class of 2019. She has been thrilled to be a part of this project and to pass on some knowledge to the next generation of medical students. She is looking forward to starting her internal medicine residency at the University of Kentucky. 

Ruifei Wang

Ruifei Wang is a third-year medical student interested in psychiatry. Ruifei will be working in military psychiatry in the future in the Air Force.  

Melissa Yuan

Melissa grew up in a small town outside of Boston with a flock of chickens and a mini-pig named Cheerio. She earned her undergraduate degree in neurobiology and minor in global health and health policy at Harvard. Melissa is currently a fourth-year medical student at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and plans to pursue a career in ophthalmology.

Anna Anderson, MD

Anna was born and raised in Waco, TX. She graduated with a degree in biology from Texas A&M University and taught high school biology in the Houston area before entering medical school. She is now completing her intern year in Indianapolis before moving on to her diagnostic radiology residency in Seattle. In her spare time, Anna enjoys reading, baking, and traveling with her husband.

Marta Bean, BA

Marta is a fourth-year medical student at Emory University. She will pursue a residency in internal medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys travel and having culinary adventures.

Alejandro Bugarini, MD

Alejandro is originally from Juarez, Mexico. He graduated from San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in 2018 and is currently a neurosurgical resident at Geisinger Health System. His clinical interests include neuro-oncology and skull base surgery. He also has a special interest in medical education and translational research. In his spare time, Alejandro spends time with his family and eagerly expands his culinary acumen.

Brian Horwich, MD, MSEng

Originally from Chicago, IL, Brian graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013 and completed his Master of Engineering degree in bioengineering in 2014. He graduated from the Keck School of School of Medicine of USC in 2018. He is currently a resident in the internal medicine program at LAC+USC Medical Center. In his spare time, he enjoys running, hiking, and doing crossword puzzles.

Wells LaRiviere

Wells is a fourth-year MD-PhD student currently studying secondary bacterial pneumonia and direct lung injury as a thesis project and is interested in pursuing a career in critical care medicine.  

Brian Wu

Brian is from Maryland and graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park before attending the Keck School of Medicine of USC MD/PhD program. He graduated in 2017 and is doing his psychiatry residency at USC. He is working on the Only Human, One You project.

Vanya Aggarwal, MD

Vanya is an MD graduate who participated in the clinical and translational research track. She is an incoming internal medicine resident at Wake Forest University.

Scott Moore, DO, MLS (ASCP)

Scott is from Colorado and completed medical school, a pathology internship, and a fellowship in Arizona. He now teaches in Ogden, UT at Weber State University and Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Scott loves running, playing the guitar, and playing games with his 3-year-old twins and 1-year-old daughter. He is also an advocate for lifestyle medicine.

Duaa AbdelHameid

Duaa authored materials for Rx Bricks while in her fourth year of medical school. She will start an internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s hospital where she hopes to continue being involved in curriculum development and medical education.  

Amir Abidov

Amir graduated medical school in 2019 from the University of Arizona College of Medicine Tucson, and is now an internal medicine resident at Lankenau Medical Center. His interests include medical education, evolutionary medicine, cooking, and Krav Maga.

Rachel is a third-year student interested in hematology and oncology.

Farhan Ahmad

Farhan Ahmad is a third-year student pursuing his medical degree. He is interested in medical education, research, and ethics. 

Cecily Allen

Cecily is an enthusiastic student and educator. She has completed bench research, quality improvement in medical education, and Rx Bricks. Teaching is a passion she will never stop pursuing. 

Arvin John Amo

Arvin was a first-time student author for the second wave of Rx Bricks. His Bricks were focused on anti-microbial drugs (anti-mycobacterial drugs, anti-fungal drugs, antibiotic resistance mechanisms and penicillin class of drugs).  

Puspa Bahadur

Puspa graduated medical school from Nepal and is currently applying for an internal medicine residency in the United States. Puspa has a keen interest in helping fellow medical students understand the topics easily and espouses a philosophy that “I should understand a complex topic so well that I can make it simple to anyone I teach.”

Katherine is a fourth-year medical student and will be pursuing a career as a pediatrician.

A native of Lexington, KY, Mary Boulanger completed her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition at the University of Kentucky. Mary’s interests include utilizing evidence-based practice and preventive medicine to improve the health climate in her community. Mary plans to pursue a career in internal medicine.

Zachary Britstone

Zachary is from Toronto, ON. Outside of medical school, you’ll most likely find him cooking, snowboarding, or playing the piano. 

Anthony Calabrese

Anthony is a medical student in his clinical years. He has a passion for research, teaching, kids, and providing compassionate care. 

Andrew Campbell

Andrew is a fourth-year medical student. He is pursuing a career in radiology and enjoy playing the piano and powerlifting in his free time.

Zack Cohen, BS

Zack is from Los Angeles, CA, and graduated from UCLA in 2014, where he majored in molecular, cell, and developmental biology. He will wrap up his MD studies at Sackler School of Medicine in May 2019, and he plans to pursue a career in surgery. Zack enjoys reading, exercising, and exploring new restaurants in the greater Los Angeles area.

Samantha Colby

Samantha is from Portland, OR, and graduated from Oregon State University in 2014, where she majored in biochemistry and biophysics. She is currently completing her MD studies at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and will graduate in May 2019. In her free time, Samantha enjoys drawing, painting, and apparel design.

Anthony Conforti

Anthony is a first-year medical student. His class was provided Rx Bricks to review during cardiovascular instruction. He provided feedback to his course director and was referred from there to his position as an intern editor.

Timothy Duh

Timothy is from Taipei, Taiwan, and graduated from University of California, Berkeley in 2013, where he majored in molecular and cell biology. As a fourth-year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine, Timothy is currently pursuing the residency in Internal Medicine. In his spare time, Timothy enjoys tabletop games, cooking, and quality time with friends and family.

Safwan K. Elkhatib

Safwan Elkhatib is a first-year graduate student in the MD-PhD Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His doctoral research focuses on the interaction between autonomic neurotransmitters and T-lymphocytes in psychological stress. Safwan plans to pursue a career where basic science intersects with clinical medicine, with an ideal future career as a clinician, instructor, and researcher.

Andrew Ford is a third–year medical student who has a passion for medical education, namely preclinical curricular development.

Robert is a Navy officer pursuing a career in otolaryngology and head and neck surgery. 

Garrett Harada

Garrett is from Sacramento, CA and graduated with a undergraduate degree in molecular and cellular biology from UC Berkeley in 2013. He is currently completing his medical training at UCLA and plans to pursue a career in orthopaedic surgery upon graduation. His current research interests include injury risk after concussion in sports and risk factors for poor outcomes in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. In his free time, Garrett enjoys playing basketball, running, weightlifting, martial arts, cooking, traveling, and beer tasting.

Nathaniel Hayward

Nathaniel is a Canadian medical student current studying at University College Cork School of Medicine in Cork, Ireland. He is completing his penultimate year of study and plans to pursue a residency in pediatrics. In his spare time, he is an avid distance runner, coffee connoisseur, and music lover.  

Amina Ibrahim

Amina also has a Bachelor of Science degree from Carleton University and a Bachelor of Education degree in intermediate/high school education from Ottawa University.

Joshua Isserman

Josh is from Philadelphia, PA and graduated from with an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and attended graduate school at Johns Hopkins University. He has lived on three continents and advised the leaders of healthcare organizations prior to starting medical school. He has a special interest in healthcare quality and healthcare policy. 

Peter John

Peter is a fifth–year student (MD-PhD candidate) in the medical scientist training program. He is currently completing his thesis work in cancer immunology and aims to be a translational research oncologist in the future.  

Ryan Johnson

Ryan is from Kansas City, MO and graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia in 2015, where he majored in biomedical engineering. He will earn his MD from the University of Missouri School of Medicine in May 2019. Outside the hospital, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, movies and documentaries, reading, music, and bowling.

Timothy Juwono

Timothy earned an undergraduate degree at UCSD and attended University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. He is currently a urology resident at the University of South Florida.

Komal Kapoor

Komal is a third-year medical student at Oakland University William Beaumont and currently serves as a writer for ScholarRx. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California San Diego. She is the winner of the Revelle Humanities Christine Norris Award. Komal enjoys Zumba, skiing, and hiking. 

Shaima Khandaker

Shaima grew up in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in biopsychology, cognition, and neuroscience and a master of science degree in molecular and integrative physiology. She earned her medical degree at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and graduated in 2020. She is now a resident in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Beaumont Health near Detroit. Throughout her educational journey, Shaima has been passionate about research and working with underserved communities.  In her free time, she enjoys trying new restaurants, watching Netflix, and sleeping.

Nicole is a Master of Public Health student at Yale University and will finish the last year of her 7-year BS/MD program at the University of South Florida Health Morsani College of Medicine. She plans to pursue plastic surgery upon graduation. Her interests include global health, infectious diseases, and medical education. In her spare time, she enjoys playing piano and viola, hiking, figure drawing, and spending time with her cat.

Michael Li, BA

Michael is from Michigan and graduated from Boston University in 2016, where he majored in medical sciences as part of the Seven-Year Liberal Arts/Medical Education Program. He is currently a fourth-year medical student at Boston University School of Medicine and will graduate in May 2019 with plans of going into anesthesiology. In his spare time, Michael enjoys cooking French food, experimenting with fermented foods and drinks, app development, piano composition, and outdoor activities.

Maili is pursuing a diagnostic radiology residency and has had a great experience working as part of the Rx Bricks team. Maili is interested in improving medical education and has enjoyed the opportunity to fuse this with a passion for writing to aid in the development study resources for medical students. 

Michael Linden

Michael received his undergraduate degree from the University of Kentucky in 2015 and is a fourth–year student at AUC School of Medicine. 

Bobbie - Jo Lowie

Born and raised in Toronto, ON, Bobbi-Jo received her MD from Ross University School of Medicine in Dominica. She began her emergency medicine residency at the university of Maryland Medical Center in June 2019.

Kenley Lu, MD

Kenley is from Ellensburg, WA, and graduated from Colgate University in 2012, where he majored in computer science. He has recently graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine with his MD after completing their Targeted Rural and Underserved Track. Kenley is now a general surgery resident at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle, WA. In his spare time, Kenley enjoys singing, cooking, rock climbing, and exploring the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

Sara Mahmood

Sara is a third–year medical student with an interest in medical education and who loves participating in projects that aid learning for medical students. She has worked on the Rx Brick project for two terms and has really enjoyed the experience.

Jacob is a medical student interested in pursuing an internal medicine residency.

Sean Mcdermott

Sean is a fourth-year medical student from Cleveland, OH. He studied mathematics and chemistry at Ohio State University. Sean is interested in global health, scientific advancement, and systematic health inequities. He will apply for an otolaryngology residency after graduation.  

Ian McKinley

Ian is from Louisville, KY and graduated from Auburn University in 2015 where he majored in biomedical sciences and Spanish. He is applying to general surgery and plans to pursue a career in academic medicine. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée, listening to records, and playing lacrosse.

Eric Sasine is from Evergreen, CO. He graduated from the University of Colorado Denver in 2011 with an undergraduate degree in history. He is currently applying for combined internal medicine and pediatrics residencies. In his spare time, Eric loves to go on walks with his wife and son, hike, drink coffee, and listen to podcasts.

Originally from California, graduated from Ross University School of Medicine in 2018 and started an internal medicine residency at University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2019.

Alexandra Spirou

Alexandra is a fourth-year medical student who is originally from Windsor, ON. She plans on doing a family medicine residency and hopes it will be in Canada. She has always loved creative writing, so combining that love with a passion for medicine has been a dream come true.

Alugya Suliman

Alugya was born in Sudan and moved to the US at 7 years old. She received her undergraduate degree at UNC Chapel Hill. Alugya loves to mentor students and to give back in any way that she can.

Uchit Thapa

Uchit Thapa is a graduate from the College of Medical Sciences, Bharatpur, Nepal. Uchit is also an ECFMG certified international medical graduate with step scores in the 95th percentile who is interested in pursuing a residency in internal medicine. Uchit is highly enthusiastic regarding the field of academics and teaching which has been a motivating factor in the decision to participate in Rx Bricks.

Sage Timberline

Sage Timberline is a fourth-year medical student going into pediatrics. She enjoys medical writing and was involved in writing and editing questions for Elsevier and ExamCircle prior to finding ScholarRx. She also enjoys health disparities research and hopes to work in critical care in the future. 

Damon Roger Townsend McIntire, BA

Damon is from Charlottesville, VA, and graduated from Brown University in 2015, where he majored in biology and Hispanic studies. He is completing his MD at Alpert Medical School and will graduate in May 2019. He has been teaching cooking skills and nutritional basics to his fellow medical students and the students of a nearby culinary school. He has also spent time researching craniofacial trauma and reconstructive surgery with his mentors in the plastic surgery department at Rhode Island Hospital. In his spare time, Damon loves to read horror novels (with a penchant for H.P. Lovecraft and Stephen King), play soccer, and cook for his family and friends.

Brian studied biomedical engineering at Georgia Tech as an undergraduate and worked for Epic Systems as a Technical Services Analyst.

Ayaka is a third-year medical student who loves to write and teach. Ayaka taught anatomy, biochemistry, and physiology to junior medical students. 

Lauren Turich, MS, MPH

Lauren is a fourth-year student at Saint James School of Medicine. She holds two master’s degrees, one in public health from The George Washington University and a second in health education and promotion from Walden University. Lauren has a particular interest in serving the underserved and aspires to address the country’s maternal care deserts as a future full-spectrum family medicine resident. She enjoys rides on her Peloton, exploring national parks, and traveling.

Lulu Wong, MD Candidate

Lulu Wong is currently a fourth-year medical student at the University of Miami, where she also spent a year as a research fellow studying the molecular biology of chronic wounds. She graduated from California State University, Fresno with a dual degree in biology and chemistry. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, writing, hiking, snowboarding, horseback riding, and running with her dog.

Austin Wu

Austin is a fourth–year medical student planning to pursue a career in anesthesiology. He loves to play the guitar, shoot hoops, and explore new cities.  

Jianxiang Xia

Jianxiang Xia worked as an author for Rx Bricks involving skin disorders. These include acne, acute inflammatory skin disorder, chronic inflammatory skin disorder, and bullous skin disorders.

Mimi grew up in San Jose, Calif, and attended the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in developmental biology. She then moved to Los Angeles for medical school and will be applying for an internal medicine residency. Mimi has a passion for education, both inside and outside of medicine. During her time off, she enjoys cooking meals for friends, sharing recipes on her blog, and biking to burn off the calories.

Melissa grew up in a small town outside of Boston with a flock of chickens and a mini-pig named Cheerio. She earned her undergraduate degree in neurobiology and minor in global health and health policy at Harvard. Melissa is currently a fourth-year medical student at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and plans to pursue a career in ophthalmology.
